Choosing LED downlights
An LED downlight is a discreet solution for general and accent lighting. The right model depends on the amount of light, beam angle, colour temperature, colour rendering, cut-out size, installation depth and the conditions in the space.
Recessed or surface-mounted?
A recessed downlight requires a cut-out that matches the dimensions of the luminaire and sufficient installation space. A surface-mounted model is suitable for situations where recessing is not possible. Check the required cooling and safety clearances for each product.
Light output and colour temperature
Compare the luminaire's lumen value and light distribution first, not just the wattage. Warm 2700–3000 K light often suits living areas at home, while neutral 4000 K suits workspaces, for example. Good colour rendering, for example CRI 90 or higher, is important when you want colours to look natural.
Damp rooms and dimming
The suitability of a luminaire for a bathroom depends on the installation location and the electrical installation requirements for the space. Check the IP rating and the manufacturer's instructions. For a dimmable downlight, the controller and any LED driver must also be compatible.
